What: Jug Bay Bio Blitz
When: September 15-16, 2007

Join biologists and others on a 24-hour “All species” search at the Jug Bay
Wetlands Sanctuary (JBWS). The JBWS is located on the Patuxent River in
southern Anne Arundel County. Experts and searchers will work in teams to
discover, identify, and document as many organisms as possible in a period
from Sat 12 Noon til Sun 12 Noon. Teams will search the wetlands, creeks,
fields, and forests to find as many different species of flora and fauna as
possible in the 24-hour period.

Join the volunteers and have fun learning about the diversity of species within
JBWS. It is an exciting area with a great diversity of flora and fauna. Tho'
there is already extensive bird information for the Jug Bay area (over 290
species), you never know what may turn up. If you are a MD bird “lister” and
want to try to find some new species, it is a great location to look for species
to add to your County, State, Year, or Life list). Or if you simply want to go
birding in a scenic area, come out and have fun. The purpose of the bio-blitz
is to help its resource managers do a better job of conserving and protecting
the native plants and animals. Sponsored by the JBWS and the Chesapeake
Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve.

The general schedule is Saturday: 10:00 a.m. to Noon will be Introduction and
Formation of Search Teams; then Noon to 9:00 p.m. Search teams conduct
surveys. Sunday will go from ~6 am to Noon.

Bird searches:	Sat Sep 15	3-7:00 pm
		Sun Sep 16	7-11:00 am

“Night birds”	Sat Sep 15	~8:00-11:00 pm
		Sun Sep 16	5:00-6:00 am

To sign up, please call (410) 741-9330, or send an email message to Volunteer
Coordinator Lindsay Funk Hollister, at For more
information specifically regarding the bird searching, email Jeff Shenot at

Bio Blitz volunteers will meet at the McCann Wetlands Study Center, 1361
Wrighton Rd., Lothian. Visit the JBWS web site, www.jugbay.org, for
directions and to learn more about the Sanctuary.
