I had a meeting today a few miles from the Central Sod farm and thought how lucky I am--I'll go early and stay late to catch the great birds at the farm. I arrived at about 11:45 and saw...many horned larks. No shorebirds at all. After my meeting I stopped again, around 4 pm. No shorebirds, only larks. Bummer....

I did see a yellow-billed cuckoo in the trees on my way out...

At Blackwater, later in the afternoon, the highlights were:

3 white pelicans
2 caspian terns
1 black tern (made my day)

At Elliot Island, highlights:

marsh wrens
seaside sparrows

I suppose these are to be expected there but this was my first time there and my first for the year. Nice area.

Subject: [MDOSPREY] Central Sod farms Queenstown Md week in review Buff breasted , Baird's

Hi All just a quick note to report my visits to the sod Farm farm near
Queenstown . I had not posted about it before as others have been
doing a good job updating everyone . Up untill this past week not much
has been happing there just killdeer and Horned Larks . With last
Tuesdays 8 - 21 - 07 rain I decided to make a check there for
shorebirds on my way home from a trip out to Poplar Island in Talbot
County . As luck would have it there were shorebirds there including
one Buff Breasted Sandpiper. upon arriving Home I called Les Roslund
about it to post the info for me as I knew I could not post till latter
Wedsday afternoon . My thanks to you Les For post about it . Also thanks
for the look at the Baird's through your scope on Friday . Its been
nice to meet you new people and old friends out the sod farm as well.

other peeps and killdeer as well

As others mentioned there were model rockets being fired and a model
plane being flown and all this kept the birds in the back hard to see .
The loud noise scaring the birds to fly, circle then land again .
During one such firing of a rocket and One Matt Halfner being presant he
saw one Baird's in flight .
