Roosevelt Island, Wash, DC, 5 Sep 07, 1200-1300

The din of cicadas just about drowned out the steady stream of aircraft
overhead on final approach to DCA. The Potomac was at low tide, choked
with aquatic vegetation and didn't look very inviting despite the warm
weather. Not much in the way of birdlife with only 18 species observed.
The only migrant was a Great-crested Flycatcher. An Osprey, perched
over the marsh, clenched a diminutive largemouth bass in its talons, 2
spotted deer dashed across the trail, and 5 five-lined skinks scurried
along the boardwalk.
