Hi All,
I work downtown DC nearly every day, and on my rare walks around the area of 14th & I NW, I normally see nothing more interesting than Starlings, House Sparrows, Ring-billed Gulls and the occasional Mallard.
Today was quite exceptional as I headed for lunch. I looked up and saw two COMMON RAVENS cartwheeling over one another and making a spectacle, showing off their wedge-shaped tails, large bills, and overall large size. As usual, there were a couple of Crows flying around for comparison. They did not vocalize, though it was trafficky and difficult to hear.
Not quite as interesting, but still unusual for this immediate area, I saw a BLACK VULTURE cruise overhead two days ago. I'm not sure what is going on, but it's nice to get a break from the usual sidewalk birds downtown.
Take Care,
Jay Keller,
