As part of the fall count for Carroll County I visited the shorebird areas of Liberty Lake this morning. The flock at the upper end of the lake is now about three quarters of a mile below the Route 140 bridge as the lake continues to go down. All the birds were on the large mud flat on the Carroll County side. The list also includes birds I found along the way in the watershed. Bowhunters were scattered around also.

Canada Goose 1 flying over
Mallard 6
Blue-winged Teal 2
Green-winged Teal 4
Great Blue Heron 3
Great Egret 2
Osprey 1
Cooper's Hawk 1, scattering the shorebirds
GOLDEN PLOVER 1 molting adult still present
Semipalmated Plover 2
Killdeer 45
Spotted Sandpiper 1
Solitary Sandpiper 4
Lesser Yellowlegs 12
Semipalmated Sandpiper 3
Least Sandpiper 65
Pectoral Sandpiper 22
DUNLIN 1 molting juvenile; I believe I have never seen this plumage here before
Ring-billed Gull 1 flying over
Ruby-throated Hummingbird 1
Pewee 1 heard only
Phoebe 1
House Wren 1
Catbird 4
Cedar Waxwing 18
Magnolia Warbler 1
Myrtle Warbler 1
Pine Warbler 1
Prairie Warbler 2
Rose-breasted Grosbeak 1 heard only

I also checked the Beaver Run section of the lake off Murray Road. The lake is not quite low enough for this section to be productive for shorebirds. And the wind was howling down this arm of the lake which runs to the northwest. The few birds I found:

Canada Goose 2
Great Blue Heron 1
Great Egret 2
Killdeer 1
Red-breasted Nuthatch 1 heard only
Red-eyed Vireo 2
Yellowthroat 2
