Wednesday, I made a quick trip to the Hammerman Area in Gunpowder Falls SP
near Chase with my wife & kid. I didn't really "bird" it, but I noticed a
few. On the jetties adjacent to the windsurfers' launch were two ROYAL
TERNS, and a pair of Great Black-backed Gulls mixed in with a group of
Ring-billed Gulls. At the northern end of the beach, there were a couple of
FORSTER'S TERNS feeding near a marshy inlet. The phragmites were too thick
to get a look at the swamp.
On our way back home, we made a quick stop at Marshy Point Nature Center
(www.marshypoint.org). A BROAD-WINGED HAWK hovered over us in the parking
lot, affording great views. I thought it was eyeing the baby, so I glared at
it (the hawk, not the baby). An immature BALD EAGLE flew over the shallow
creek/marsh that the nature center's trail parallel. I really like that
place, hopefully next time I go explore it, it won't be 20 minutes before
they close the gates.
Happy birding-
