I took an early morning walk down my road this morning hoping to find a few
Kinglets or Sparrows in a spot where they like to hang out. I saw none. On
the way back to the house, I glanced into a 15 acre hay field and happened
to see the turkeys that others have reported in the neighborhood but I had
so far missed this fall ... one mature hen and 23 good sized poults.
Later in the morning the local Red Shouldered Hawk was flying overhead and,
naturally, was calling. After a couple of minutes a Cooper's Hawk flew out
of the trees in the yard and called a couple of times and then disappeared
over the trees at the other corner of the yard. It only called a couple of
times.
