MD Osprey:

Many people are aware of the accepted MD record at Laurel, MD of a
Calliope Hummingbird that was banded and photographed at hummingbird
feeders during Nov-Dec 2004.

However; it is not generally known that a second MD bird was banded
and recovered after it expired in Dec 2006. Jim Gruber's banding
operation at Forman's Branch Bird Observatory (formerly Chino Farms),
near Kingston, Queen Anne's Count, MD banded and photographed and
then recaptured the bird between 6-10 Dec. The specimen was recently
transported to the Smithsonian. Once the Smithsonian has finished
processing it, the MD/DC Records Committee will conduct a formal review.

Both MD birds were hatching year females, so the ID was not totally obvious.

Like Jim said ... do keep those feeders up!!!

Phil
