Record numbers of Saw-whet Owls are being banded to the north this fall. Here is a recent message as an example. Check with your local owl banders to see if they need help. Remember, it's night work.

Hi All,
things are still moving well up here, and in general 1-10 NSWO's are being trapped a night, the exception was on the 29th/30th when we trapped a record 158, yes 158, new birds plus the two above numbers and a few retraps from earlier nights, our September NSWO total was 314 which is just slightly higher than the usual average Sept total of 35/year, in fact all the previous 6 years of Sept totals together only add up to 215. Its certainly looking good as we don't normally get them moving until October. Get that sleep while you can.
If the above numbers are yours please contact me for the exchange of details on them, they have already been sent in to the BBL.
Please expect a lot of Canadian banded birds in your nets soon.
