Sorry for the late announcement, but I just wanted to put the word out that "Sitting on Our Assateague" will again participate in the Big Sit! on Sunday October 14, 2007.? Unfortunately, I cannot yet commit to be there, but I do know for sure that Zach Baer, Mark Hoffman, Bill Hubick, Jim Brighton, and hopefully several others will be there to spot all the good birds.?

The circle is situated at the end of the Bayside Campground Road in the Assateague National Seashore.? There is a short boardwalk between the parking lot and an interpretive sign that the circle is centered on.? Depending on the weather, we usually start the sit between 3 and 6am and end around noon.?

This is our 6th year participating and the circle has a cumulative list of 144 species yearly totals ranging from 66 (last year) to 103 (2003, we were the ABA area winners!).? "Good" species have included Eurasian Collared-Dove, Yellow-headed Blackbird, Clay-colored Sparrow, Dickcissel, and Orange-crowned Warbler.? We often see many species of waterfowl, a few shorebirds, and a mixed bag of landbirds that are weather dependent.? Under the right conditions, we have also had excellent night listening for thrushes and other migrants.

Come join us and if it gets boring, there is plenty of Assateague to enjoy!?
