Today, 10/8, along the cross dike at Hughes Hollow there was a group of
7 quail. The birds were easily approachable, I got within 4 or 5 feet.
Nice to see even though there is probably a 99.9% chance they're
escapees from some dog training exercise. I would put them on my county
year list if not for the grief I would receive from Powell and Hubbell
at the next Montgomery Bird Club Social. :)
The large impoundment is now completely dry. Further along the cross
dike, there were 5 or 6 Yellow-rumps, 2 Palms, a Northern Parula, and a
few Ruby-crowned Kinglets. The mid-day heat and abundant flies made
things kind of unpleasant.
