Hi everybody,

Nancy and I did a bit of scouting for tomorrow's trip around Kent County
today. We took in the John Hanson Rd. ponds, Cliffs City Landing (on
Quaker Neck), Chesapeake Farms, and Great Oak Pond. John Hanson Rd
featured 220 Northern Shovelers, and about 70 Ruddy Ducks. The Chester
at Cliffs City was mostly empty save for a Common Loon. We stopped to
look at two high-flying Black Vultures in a thermal north of Pomona and
south of Airy Hill Rd on Pomona Rd and were lucky enough to also spot a
soaring PEREGRINE FALCON with them. The Chesapeake Farms viewing pool
had a nice selection of birds including 150 Northern Pintail, 30
Ring-necked Ducks, a male Northern Harrier, and 10 White-crowned
Sparrows. The Snow Geese were not on Great Oak Pond, but they were in
the fields just to the east, off Handy Pt. Rd. We had a lone CACKLING
GOOSE among them. At Great Oak Pond there was a single juvenile BRANT
(thus different from the adult I had on 27 October). I hope the salt we
put on the tails of some of these birds keeps them in place for tomorrow.

Good birding,
