A few minutes ago, and adult Red-shouldered Hawk nabbed lunch in our yard
right at the edge of the woods. I got such a close look at the bird through my
little travel binoculars--the deep brown striping on the red breast, the white
markings on its back, the outspread wings. The bird gave one final stomp
with its left foot and then flew into the woods.

I couldn't see what it got, but I kind of hope it was a mouse or vole instead
of a foraging junco.
