2.5 hours at Cromwell Valley before the rain started to become serious.
Third day post- carpal tunnel surgery, but the hand that can't tear up a
credit card solicitation is fully capable of supporting & focusing
binoculars. This may be the nicest post-surgical recovery yet.

Started out with stereophonic woodpecker pecking, with a Downy on one
side of the path and a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker on the other. Later
picked up Red-bellieds, Flickers & a Hairy WP.

Mixed flocks of Goldfinches, Song Sparrows, Chipping Sparrows, House
Finches, Juncos and TWO PURPLE FINCHES (female) along Minebank Run.

A dozen Blue Jays feeding on the ground under the sweet gum & beech
trees near Sherwood House.

5 roosting Black Vultures at the bottom of the red path; a trip to the
top for irruptive species in the pines up there yielded only a couple
Blue Jays & White-throated Sparrows.

Topped off at the end of my walk with a Winter Wren in the uphill meadow
(Chatland area)
