a life bird for many and a county bird for me.
We had a total of 53 species on what was really a very quiet day.

Hey Norm,
Were you leading a walk there today? Would've been a lifer for me too!
I led a walk for The Backyard Naturalist today, and we had 2 adult Bald
Eagles perched in a dead tree at Black Hill Regional Park. When I got them in the
scope, at a fairly short distance, one little girl (Phil Davis's niece,
Mykala!) who got the first view was really pleased. Just after this a small
group of crows came over and I told the group to watch to see the crows come down
and harass the eagles, but they flew right above them and were harassing one
of the "crows" instead. Then I looked with my binoculars and it was a COMMON
RAVEN they were harassing! What a surprise! The raven was turning 360's in
the air as it flew and put on quite a nice flying exhibition.
Other highlights were a nice female Red-breasted Nuthatch at the feeders at
the visitor center, both Pied-billed and Horned Grebes as well as DC
Cormorant, Ruddy Ducks, Ring-necked Ducks, Buffleheads, and Hooded Mergansers. A few
hawks, some other waterfowl and a few sparrows and we saw 43 species in rather
cold and blustery conditions. I had 4 kids of varying ages, all good birders
and nice kids and a good group too!
