This morning I toured some areas of northwest Carroll County looking for field birds and others. Some of the birds I found were:
SNOW GOOSE - 1 with Canada Geese in a field on Teeter Rd; a flock of 28 flying east or southeast over Bowers Rd
Gadwall - a pair on the Study Rd farm pond
Green-winged Teal - 1 male, same pond
Bufflehead - 1 female, same pond
Kestrel - 11 scattered in ones and twos, probably resident birds
Mourning Dove - a flock of about 150 on Teeter Rd
Horned Lark - a flock of at least 20 on Bowers Rd
White-crowned Sparrow - numerous and vocal in hedgerows or thickets, often singing; most in sight at one time _ 8
Northern Finches - 0. Still waiting for the first Goldfinch at my feeder.
This afternoon I went to Piney Run Park looking for the White-winged Scoter that Dave Harvey and Chuck Stirrat saw yesterday but I did not see it. I did find:
Canada Goose 1,200 plus 1 white Greylag and 1 hybrid Canada X Greylag
