With today's unseasonably warm weather, I walked the towpath downstream from
Violettes Lock. About 150 yards down, I found a young garter snake on the
towpath. Ten steps further there was an adult garter (maybe 28 inches) on the
bank between towpath and canal. More surprising, there was a bright ribbon
snake lying on top of it! Den mates?
All the usual birds, nothing noteworthy.
