Hi --

Barry and I took a circuit around Hains Point today prior to a visit to a gallery -- it was calm when we arrved, and getting cold and breezy when we left. Good bird activity included:

RED-THROATED LOON (1 -- in Potomac, actively diving in vicinity of red/green buoys moored mid-channel off National AP)
SURF SCOTER (2 female) -- in Washington Channel, only 20 yards out, in with the Mallards.
SCOTER Sp. -- too distant to ID in choppy water, off the point and about 2/3 way to VA shore
Ruddy Duck (10)
Horned Grebe (1, in Potomac)
American Coot (12)
Bald Eagle (1, adult)
Red-tailed Hawk (2, one a very pale, almost ashy bird with pale virtually unmarked breast)
Cooper's Hawk (2)
MERLIN (2-3, on golf course)
PEREGRINE (2, pair sitting on 14th St. Bridge, female looked almost 2x size of male!)
Common Yellowthroat (1, in maintenance area)
Ruby-crowned Kinglet (2-3 around maintenance area)
Golden-crowned Kinglet (1, heard only)
Swamp Sparrow (1, in maintenance area)

Mammals:

Red Fox (1 on golf course, male liftng his leg on a hole marker!)
Gray Squirrel (1 very pale individual at the Point, not quite white)
