Greetings:

Yesterday afternoon Lee and I took a short drive to see what might be
happenning around dusk at Richardson's Marsh (Rumbly Point). At 4:45 a
short-eared owl flew in towards the road from the west, just as the moon rose
out of the east and the sun had gone behind the horizon. The bird came
across the road just behind the car, and flew south along the road about 30
feet from us. Great views! It continued east and made several passes around
the small hummock that's about halfway out the road. During one pass a
juvenile harrier flew past the owl in the opposite direction. The light was
pretty well gone by 5:15, although the full moon was huge and bright over the
marsh.

Other birdlife:

Canada goose
Black duck
Great blue heron
Greater yellowlegs
Belted kingfisher
American pipit (flock of ca. 30 roosting in the marsh)
White-throated sparrow

Happy birding,
