Hi Everyone,

My girlfriend Becky and I did a little birding and Sunday-driving in
Washington Co. this afternoon. The bird of the day was a SNOW GOOSE with a
large flock of Canada Geese on the beach at Greenbrier SP. Hans Holbrook
was having trouble with this species in the county, so we decided to come
up and help him out. Ring-billed Gull numbers were impressive, with
double-digit sightings at Greenbrier SP (15), a field south of Antietam
(27), and Cushwa Basin (~45). A late-ish Black Vulture soared over
Greenbrier SP, and we were surprised to find about 12 Myrtle Warblers in
Antietam-area hedgerows. Shaffer Road held its usual White-crowned
Sparrows, but offered us no shrikes of either variety.

We joined Hans Holbrook at C&O/Potomac stops from Cushwa Basin to Big
Pool. The latter was the only stop with noteworthy waterfowl, which
included the following:

Canada Goose--190
Gadwall--25
American Black Duck--8
Mallard--12
Northern Shoveler--4
Green-winged Teal--5
Lesser Scaup--5
Common Merganser--30+
Bald Eagle--2
Killdeer--4
Ring-billed Gull--5

Good birding!

Bill
