The Talbot Bird Club visited Blackwater NWR for the Dec 02 morning birdwalk,
despite warnings of wintry conditions, and managed to find a fine range of
interesting species. The trip was led by Gordon Jennings. See below for
the details of the sightings.

Subject: Talbot Bird Club visits Blackwater NWR
Ten birders braved the threat of sleet to travel from Easton to Blackwater
National Wildlife Refuge, where the weather remained moderate with no
precipitation.
63 species were heard or observed.
Highlights included two Great Horned Owls, one in Talbot County and one at
BNWR. Eleven Hooded Mergansers flew in and glided along the Little
Blackwater River. A Hermit Thrush sat very close by and could be seen and
heard making calls. A Red-shouldered Hawk in a bare tree provided excellent
views. And a Fish Crow called several times.
A stop at the Visitor Center afforded close up views of a Red Fox. Part of
the group enjoyed brunch at a Cambridge restaurant. One car load of birders
then proceeded to look for a reported Rough-legged Hawk in Dorchester
County.
