This evening my girlfriend Colleen and myself veiwed a Cave Swallow with a flock of Tree Swallows over the small pond on Messick Road in Somerset County. Messick Road is the first right after the marsh ends in Dames Quarter. This is the road where you view the Peregrine Falcon hack tower. Bill Hubick and Matt Hafner who were traveling in the car ahead of us unfortunately went straight (heading to Riley Roberts Road) when we turned to check the geese that live on the pond on Messick Road for Snow Geese. While looking through the small flock of Canada's on the pond a group of 15-20 Tree Swallows came in. One of the swallos banked low and I saw the light rump and was able to get on the bird and watch it well (about 30 seconds) until it flew over the car out into the marsh. Having no cell phone service we had to drive about a quarter mile before I was able to get Bill. By the time Bill and Matt got there the swallow flock had dispersed and we couldn't relocate the bird.
