Phil:
That's a good question, Phil, and the answer is that songs and calls
are on the same track -- same as the original tracks on the Stokes
CD's, except that the voice intro is cut out.
I recently found this out, as I just last week ripped my Stokes CD's
with the BirdJam software. I am already thinking about doing some
editing myself and augmenting what BirdJam put into my iPod. For
example, I would like most owl tracks to have just hooting on them --
not the sound of youngsters in the nest and other ancillary
noises. Editing tracks is pretty easy -- lots of software around
that can help you do the job -- but of course it can be very time
consuming if hundreds of species are involved, which is why BirdJam
started in business in the first place.
I don't know of any other available software capability to separate
songs and calls. But then I haven't long known about BirdJam.
