I spent some time in Calvert and St. Mary's Counties today 1/5/08.
Calvert Co:
In the Solomons, I parked in a lot at Ave A & Calvert and was treated to
some nice birds in the bare trees and at the Juniper berries including
Cedar Waxwings and a Carolina Wren that landed on my side mirror for a
moment until it realized what it had done.
St. Mary's:
I had permission to visit the house with the Rufous(?) Hummingbird and
it appeared within 5 minutes of my arrival. The KING EIDER remains at
Point Lookout State Park as previously reported north of the Fishing
Pier along with Surf Scoters, Lesser and Greater Scaup, Long Tailed
Ducks and Common Goldeneyes. In fact, there were a lot of Goldeneye
both at Town Point in California, MD and along the Causeway/Fishing Pier
at Point Lookout. Also, quite a few Eastern Meadowlark on Cornfield
Harbor Road and Longneck Road.
A nice day.
