Hello all,
I spent the early morning hours digging and planting our first Christmas
tree (for our new home). I bought a B&B "Fat Albert" Blue Spruce at Johnson's
Nursery in Laytonsville, establishing a new Christmas tradition for us. I will
plant a tree every New Years day from now on, weather permitting, creating
more bird habitat in our new yard and greening the earth at the same time.
This one mimics one we had in our small townhouse yard for over 20 years and
will grow into a nice medium-sized tree over time. I planted it near the feeders
so the birds have someplace to hide from the Cooper's hawks (and maybe
another shrike!!).

While out I noticed Dark-eyed Juncos, American Goldfinches, House Finches,
House Sparrows, Mourning Doves and Canada Geese flying over in large V's.
Nothing very exciting I'm afraid.

Happy New Year all, and let's give thanks to Norm and Fran for another year
of maintaining this excellent list serve!! Peace...
