While "sitting bucket" yesterday (20 jan, 2008) afternoon in the wretched wind, watching the south end of Jug Bay, I saw, at 3:45 pm a flock of ~70 Bonaparte's Gulls flying rapidly south down the Patuxent River. Then at 4:00 another flock of ~90, then I took a 30-minute-or-so break and returned to see another flock of ~30 at 4:55 and at 5:10 another of ~60. Whazzup? -- haven't seen them here since Nov. 12. I wonder how many more went by during my break. All counts are very approximate; they were flying so fast and constantly shifting positions, etc.

Also, on January 14, I saw a White-fronted Goose from my bucket, with a small flock of Canadas. It appeared to be of the orange-billed persuasion, but the light was not great.
