The light covering of snow from yesterday was just enough to make field
birding a bit easier. During a check of some of the mid-shore open fields
today, with the help of some snow still in the background, two Lapland
Longspurs were visible amongst a small flock of Horned Larks in Queen Anne's
County. The specific site was beside Damsontown Road a little over a mile
south of the intersection with Ruthsburg Road. Total Horned Larks in this
flock numbered around 20.
Earlier in the day I had visited several other fields, including one in
Talbot County that held about 200 Horned Larks in a single flock - but
careful scoping through the flock twice convinced me that only Horned Larks
were present in that group.
