I'm just now able to post from this morning. I know that the White-winged Crossbill was seen in the early morning and the early afternoon today. I went by the spot at about 9:45 this morning on my way to an appointment with only a few minutes to spare. It was raining and I saw an immature Cooper's Hawk flying around as I walked up. I was concerned that the hawk would have scared everything away. I watched for about 5 minutes, then someone stopped their car to ask what I was looking at (he lived in the neighborhood and had seen the many observers in this spot over the last couple of weeks). I explained what we crazy birders were seeking. As he drove away, I turned around for one last look before leaving for my appointment, focused on the thistle sock and there it was. The bird was present for a couple of minutes before everything flushed and flew away.
So I got to see it on my second visit to the spot and still get to my appointment on time. Nice way to add a life bird!!
