The White-winged Crossbill arrived at the thistle sock feeder in
Silver Spring at 7:37am. I had been looking since 6:45am. It's
dark at 6:45. The bird spent several minutes at the feeder, and
then flew to the tops of some neighboring trees on the left. It
picked at the ends of twigs and appeared to be eating tree buds.
It stayed in the trees for nearly an hour before returning to the
feeder briefly and flying off at 8:38.
Looks like the fifth time was the charm for this bird ; )
