Monroe and all,

Elaine and I saw the Painted Bunting at 9:38 this morning. Ray Kiddy, who had watched it for 20 or so minutes, was just leaving the area, and showed us where to put the spotting scope. We looked around and didn't see the bird, but set up the scope, and when I looked into the scope, there was the Painted Bunting dead center in the field of view, sitting in the holly bush exactly where Ray said it likes to hang out. Elaine was able to get a look in the scope before the bird disappeared for a while. Tom Bradford and his wife and another birder joined us, and then about 10:07 the bird came to the feeder and fed for the better part of ten minutes.

The Painted Bunting is being seen from the B&A Trail in Arnold, MD, just north of Annapolis. From B&A Blvd turn west onto Asquithview Ave., and immediately park along the street. Walk a few feet to the B&A trail, turn left (south) on the trail 30 or 40 feet, and the feeder (and holly bush loaded with red berries) is up in the yard to the left. To all future viewers, please stay on the trail.
