My wife and I went to Rocky Gap State Park this afternoon. While
hiking around the Canyon Overlook Loop, I managed to pish in a HERMIT
THRUSH near the overlook proper. Near the parking area, we stopped to
look for Brown Creepers, as I had seen one there earlier this winter.
Low and behold 3 BROWN CREEPERS appeared nearly instantly! I was even
able to take some pictures on one which appeared to work its way up
the trunk and then fell asleep. Does anyone know if this species
enters some state of torpor during the winter months? At any rate,
this parking area seems fairly reliable for Brown Creepers. Also, we
heard two Pileated Woodpeckers calling and drumming.
