Ruth, Ben, and I took a quick trip to the Eastern Shore to visit Backwater NWR. Time did not permit us to do so during our December trip. The day was sunny with a high blue sky. The refuge was very quiet. However, one can hardly complain of seeing both mature and immature Bald Eagles, White Pelicans, and first sightings of Tree Swallows.

The Choptank was also quiet. The drive along its shore in Cambridge gave us sightings of Golden-eye, Tundra Swans, and a large gathering of Canvas Backs.
