I was in DC today and so biking home late, I heard several AMERICAN WOODCOCK
(or is the plural of woodcock, woodcocks?) this evening near the top of the
Paint Branch Trail.  I was surprised by the first, very close to the trail,
then heard at least 2 more a couple minutes later from the park at the end
of Park Dr. (right around the corner from the trail, also off of Cherry
Hill) that didn't sound too far away.  This was probably between 6:10 and
6:15pm.  I only heard the "peent" calls, I couldn't stick around to see if
they'd fly, but it was still a little light out so they might have a hair later.
