I took Jim Brighton's advice and headed west this morning.

North Branch - Allegany Co, MD
10 (Ten) GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE - with about 75 Canada Geese in the
fields past the treatment ponds.

Big Pool - Washington Co, MD
1 Pied-billed Grebe
35 American Black Duck
4 Northern Pintail
4 Gadwall
6 American Wigeon
17 Canvasback
30+ Redhead
75+ Ring-necked Duck
11 Greater Scaup
2 Lesser Scaup
15 Bufflehead
25+ Hooded Merganser
30+ Common Merganser
3 Ruddy Duck
9 American Coot
These counts are probably a little low.  Note that Big Pool at this time
is not very wide, so the ducks can be readily seen from the tow path
(the Fort Frederick entry).
I looked at all the entries to the C&O Canal between Big Pool and
Williamsport, but no Common Goldeneye.
