Our car needed some work, so I rode in to school from down south, passing by
Lake Artemesia. I was delighted to find a HORNED GREBE in the company of a
threesome of ruddy ducks. They were in the southern half of the lake on the
side near the restrooms. There was a huge flock of Canada Geese in the
northern half, but I couldn't pick out anything unusual (not for lack of
trying!). Otherwise, the usual: a handful of pied-billed grebes, a few
ring-necked ducks, 1-2 dozen coots, a pair of mallards, a couple dozen
ring-billed gulls and a kingfisher flapping hard flying into the wind :).
Plus r-w blackbirds, song sparrows, chickadees, etc.

I also heard a bird call down near River Rd, not far from the trail that
sounded much like the "ch-ch-ch-ch-ch" of a chat. I waited for a repeat,
but didn't hear it again. I'm pretty sure that it was not a chat... a
mockingbird perhaps, or any other ideas?

Good Birding,
