Hi all,

Made a short trip to bird Hughes Hollow late this morning. Most of the waterfowl noted earlier were still there. While trying NOT to, I flushed 3 Wilson's Snipe! One flew from the main dike, and the other two from the middle one. The fields beyond were being manured, so a tractor was moving by the impoundments every 15 minutes. Made one stay on their toes!
  Birds seen/heard:
  3 Wilson's Snipe
1 Red-headed Woodpecker (usual spot in dead trees at the end of big impoundment)
Red winged Blackbirds (males flying in)
  1 Red shouldered Hawk
  White throated Sparrows (numerous)
  Song Sparrow " "
  Fish Crow
  Common Crow
  5 Turkey Vultures
  Tree Swallows (several)
  Wood Ducks
  Hooded Merganser
Ring necked Ducks (all in large impoundment)
Red Head Duck (only saw 4, there might have been more)
  American Widgeon (several)
  Canada Geese
*Eastern Phoebe (heard in park by my house, right on time)

  Good birding,
  Diane Ford/Bethesda.
