At precisely 12 Noon today an Osprey came sailing in on the wind above
Leeds Creek to become yard bird # 61 for the year. Meanwhile, the Pine
Siskins continue to hang around. This morning I counted six of them, along
with over 30 Goldfinches.

A brief visit to the Presquile Road ponds of Pickering Creek this
morning was rewarded with nice views of American Wigeon, Pintails, lots of
Black Ducks and a Northern Harrier, along with the usual Mallards and Canada
Geese. Canada Geese numbers are certainly dropping around here, but we had
about 1500 of them on Leeds Creek at 7:30 this morning.

Yesterday afternoon Carolyn and I paid a visit to the Cambridge
waterfront to see if the winter regulars were still there. Most of them
were still around, posing happily for picture taking by a photographer with
a Pennsylvania tag on his van. He must have been familiar with the place,
for he had his bag of corn to help the ducks to stay close. Four Redheads
were present, along with several hundred Canvasbacks and a sprinkling of
Lesser Scaup, American Wigeon and Mallards. A single Black Duck was with
the group. Out in the Choptank we could see a line of Surf Scoters. Once a
Coopers Hawk passed close to the shoreline, striking fear into the hearts of
some of the ducks. Not far away, at the Cambridge Marina, we saw two female
Greater Scaup. Other Choptank birds included several Long-tailed Ducks.

A quick drive through Blackwater Refuge proved that the White Pelicans
were still present.
