Hello everyone,

I decided to bird along the Potomac today to see what waterfowl were moving.
Highlights:

Violet's Lock -- Montgomery County
Got here around 10:30am
Redhead -- 60
The scaup flock must have dispersed since Clive viewed them earlier. The flock was about 80 birds with about 25% Greaters
Pied Billed Grebe -- 10

Sugarland Woods along Hughes Rd. -- Montgomery County
Red-breasted Nuthatch -- 1

Across from Harper's Ferry -- Washington County
Common Goldeneye -- 8
Am Black Duck -- 65
Mallard -- 45
Herring Gull -- 5
Horned Grebe -- 1

Williamsport -- Washington County
American Wigeon -- 8
Wood Duck -- 2
Coot -- 12
Bufflehead -- 2

Big Pool -- Washington County
Canvasback -- 20
Redhead -- 25
Pintail -- 1
Gadwall -- 35
Lesser Scaup -- 15
Greater Scaup -- 10
Scaup sp? -- 25
Green-winged Teal -- 2
Black Duck -- 30
Common Goldeneye -- 2
Ruddy Duck -- 12
Bufflehead -- 12
Common Merganser -- 30

This was the motherload of ducks for the day. My numbers are probably low and I'm sure I missed alot of birds because it was cold and the wind was blowing very hard. If you need ducks for your Washington list I would definently try to get up there tomarrow.

I stopped at almost every major boat landing between Mouth of the Monocacy and Big Pool. Most of the birds that were moving were Common Mergs, Goldeneye, and Ring-billed Gulls. Almost every spot I hit had these three species.
