This morning a female Pileated Woodpecker was hopping on some deadfall
in our front yard, and even stood in the leaf letter as she checked out the old
snag that used to be a favorite tree of the local woodpecker gang. I have
never seen a horizontal Pileated before--they look very big when they're that
close to the ground. What a nice yard bird!
