Strike three. I made one last attempt at the redpoll(s) at Ft. Smallwood.
Of course, the weather was hardly ideal, but at least this time I actually
found some juncos to sort through. No luck, but I didn't really expect,
since there haven't been any positive reports since last week.

Towhees were abundant, lots of G. Scaup in the bay, with some Bufflehead, a
moulting male Common Goldeneye, and a Horned Grebe. Several dozen what I
think were Canvasback flew over. And there was a half dozen of so Am. Black
Ducks, loosely associated with Mallards that were in the wet spot, but
flushed, and landed on the pond. I also saw my first Osprey of the year.

Some burning has occured there, an large patch by the pond was still
smoldering. I also saw some other burnt patches. Was this a controlled
burn, or did something untoward happen?
