Dear All

Greg Butcher, Christoph Zockler and I did a short tour of the Potomac around
Hains Point this morning looking for ducks downed in the downpour, with some
success.

- reasonable number of gulls on the Potomac, almost all being Ring-billed but a
single Bonaparte's Gull, not yet in sum plum, being notable.
- c40 DC Cormorants, 3 R N Ducks, a male R-b Merganser and an Osprey in
the Washington Channel and four BC Night herons in the usual bushes at the
northern end
- a group of about 800 Lesser Scaup at the Anacostia river mouth, plus single
Greater Scaup and Red-necked Grebes, a pair of Shoveler and 4 Buffleheads in
the same area
- c50 Lesser Scaup, female RB Merganser and a nice male Canvasback on the
Tidal Basin
- no landbirds of real note, 3 Ruby-crowned and 15 Golden-crowned Kinglets in
trees along the Potomac were nice tho'

Reasonable return for effort in the lousy conditions.

best
