Hi everybody,
I just came in from my morning stroll around the backyard with the dog.
Lots of robins around this morning, feeding in my yard and the adjacent fields,
along with mixed blackbird flocks. When I took a closer look (with
binoculars) at a pair of what I thought were grackles feeding on the ground in the
corner of the yard, they turned out to be a pair of (male) RUSTY BLACKBIRDS, yard
bird # 85!! They were flipping over leaves in the grass out in the open,
sort of like they do in the woods. Amazing. I wouldn't have thought of this
bird to appear here. I've actually been going out in the evenings close to dusk
to listen for woodcocks, which I thought would be the next new species to
show up, but so far no luck.
Now if I could set up something like Andy Martin has and listen for night
migrants, I'm sure I'd reach 100 in no time.
Good birding,
