Two AMERICAN WOODCOCK were seen calling and displaying over the Sinai
Hospital employee parking lot in northern Baltimore City tonight (3/7) from
11:30 pm until after midnight. This parking lot sits between Northern Parkway
and Cylburn Arboretum.

I impressed one of my co-workers by asking if she had heard the woodcocks
calling. She said, "What are the birds called?"

After she got in her car and left, I walked over to where I had heard the
calls. One woodcock was heard flying in broad circles high and directly
overhead when it plopped down onto the grass about 10 feet in front of me
and began its "peent" calls.

I watched it for 15 minutes as it continued calling and poking around with its
bill.

At least I was impressed.
