Hi Everyone,

Our schedule today allowed only about an hour and a half of birding; but the good news is that Carol is finished with school for the week, so it will be a team effort the rest of the way. We spent most of our time at Perryville Community Park in Cecil County thanks to suggestions from Pat Valdata and John Hubbell. We also attempted a brief stop at Port Deposit per Matt Hafner's suggestion, but ultimately it was not a good afternoon for birding the Susquehanna. Steady rain, but more importantly a thick fog, left us with extremely limited visibility, and Carol and I felt grateful to eke out a few species close to shore at Perryville Community Park--Pied-billed Grebe (1), Red-breasted Merganser (1), Hooded Merganser (2), and Lesser Scaup (1). A little pishing through the open window of the car attracted a decent sample of woodland species, including Brown Creeper (1) and White-breasted Nuthatch (2). Given the conditions and our time constraints, we felt lucky to leave Cecil County with 31 species. We'll defintely return (soon I hope) to give these locations their due under better circumstances. We're spending tonight in Baltimore County at my folks' house. Full time birding begins again tomorrow--can't wait!
