This afternoon on my way home from work I stopped by the Accokeek
Creek section of Piscataway Park in southwestern Prince George's
County. After much scoping of the river I managed to find a single
RED-NECKED GREBE, still in winter plumage, very far out.

Other birds included:

Common Loon - 6+
Pied-billed Grebe - 2 or 3
Horned Grebe - 4 or 5 (coming into breeding plumage)
Double-crested Cormorant - several
Great Blue Heron - 1
Wood Duck - 2 (flew from marsh)
Mallard - several pairs
Ring-necked Duck - 8
scaup spp. - 45+ (mostly Lesser, a few Greater)
Bufflehead - several
Osprey - 1 (flew off with a fish)
Bonaparte's Gull - at least 1

A grebe trifecta!
