We had a productive Sunday morning at Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens in D.C. leading some novice birder friends around. Highlights included at least 3 Osprey, one of which carried a very large goldfish (maybe one of the Koi from the National Arboretum across the Anacostia River?) to a tree and ate it while we watched. The sight of the Osprey carrying this very bright orange fish was really something! We also had a nice flock of 42 Rusty Blackbirds in the wet woods, 3 Tree Swallows, two Yellowlegs (unidentified as to species without a scope), 3 Fox Sparrows, 2 Swamp Sparrows, and 3 Bald Eagles. The very low tide (and aggressive, noisy Canada Geese) kept waterbirds to a minimum. A complete list from my eBird report follows.
