Yesterday I noticed an American Robin in the yard that had its bill open.
It was picking through the garden hunting for food and held its bill was
open. I watched it for about an hour. It allowed me to get within 10 feet
and I could not see any obstruction forcing the bill. Seems very odd.
Otherwise the bird was active and looked robust and did flee when I got too
close. Ideas?

Other birds enjoyed during a long day of yard work included in no particular
order:
Goldfinch
Juncos
Chipping Sparrows - singing
White Throated Sparrow - singing
Song Sparrow - singing
Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers (interesting pair interaction)

Carolina Wren
Downy Woodpeckers
Red-bellied Woodpecker
Starlings
House Sparrow
Mourning Dove
Flock of 20 calling Fish Crows
American Crow
Red-winged Blackbirds
Cowbirds
Common Grackle
White Breasted Nuthatch
Carolina Chickadee
Tufted Titmouse
