Blue Mash Nature Trail, Zion Road Section, Montogomery County, 30 Mar
08, 0700-0915

It was a cold walk around Blue Mash Sunday morning, with ice covering
standing water. Highlights included 4 Green-winged Teal and 10
Bufflehead on the large pond, a Pied-billed Grebe and 2 Killdeer at the
small pond, Tree Swallows inspecting the nest boxes, a singing Brown
Thrasher, and 6 Fox Sparrow. No Rusty Blackbird observed.

On Saturday, my wife and I cut back the vegetation around the nest box
posts, cleaned out the boxes (one was occupied by a family of mice) and
picked up a couple dozen brewskie bottles that mysteriously keep
appearing along the trail. I will also send a request to MCPPC to
replace the broken rails on the parking lot fence.
