Hi all,
On my way back through town from business in Bethesda I stopped at Blue
Mash for an hour and a half or so to see what was around. I saw or heard 42
species, including E. Meadowlark (heard only), 7 Bonaparte's Gulls which flew in
and landed on the big pond just as I got there, 9 flyover DC Cormorants,
Green-winged Teal, Ring-necked Ducks, Buffleheads, Wilson's Snipe (on the small
pond edge), American Kestrel (male, hovering over the landfill), at least 4 Fox
Sparrows, one singing and one "chupping" from the bushes at me, a juvenile
Red-shouldered Hawk being severely harassed by an irate flock of grackles,
Belted Kingfisher, Great Blue Heron, Brown Thrasher singing from atop a maple
tree.

Anyway, nothing really out of the ordinary, but a nice mid-day jaunt
never-the-less.

Trails are wet, so if you go, be prepared!
