Hi Folks!

Yesterday Matt Hafner and I spent the morning visiting spots along the
Tuckahoe and Choptank rivers in Caroline and Talbot counties. I won't list them
all, but provide the highlights. Common Loons were heading north in small
groups at high elevation with today's observations producing what is probably
the record high count for Caroline County. Land birds were thin, with few
migrants in....and, like the Hound of the Baskervilles, kinglets and Myrtle
Warblers were notable for their absence.

Other notables of the day: 25+ North Gannets while crossing the Bay Bridge;
25 American Coot and 6 Lesser Scaup at Tuckahoe SP, Caroline; 2 Ring-necked
Duck at Denton WWTP, Caroline; 28 Greater Yellowlegs in a field at the east end
of Skeleton Creek Road, in Caroline SE of Preston; a Black Vulture nest with
2 eggs at Wye Island WMA, Queen Anne. Horned Larks at every field and
Savannah Sparrows scattered. One FOY Vesper Sparrow in a field near Ganey's
Wharf.

Although we stopped at several boat landings, the Tuckahoe is best explored
by canoe or kayak. I highly recommend putting in at the Hillsboro, Caroline
County launch and taking out at the Covey's Landing, Talbot County launch.
Below Covey's Landing the Tuckahoe becomes very wide and is more like a lake
than a stream. Note that this entire stretch is tidal, so check the tide
charts...it is easier moving down river on a falling tide.

Here are the lists:
